This resource supports science standards for grades 6-8. This assignment is based on the Virginia Standards of Learning ES.3: The student will investigate and understand how to read and interpret maps, globes, models, charts, and imagery. ES.11c: The student will investigate and understand that oceans are complex, interactive physical, chemical, and biological systems and are subject to long- and short-term variations. Key concepts include systems interactions (density differences, energy transfer, weather, and climate). PS.7: The student will investigate and understand temperature scales, heat, and heat transfer. Key concepts include Celsius and Kelvin temperature scales and absolute zero. PS.9: The student will investigate and understand the nature and technological applications of light. Sci6.1: The student will plan and conduct investigations in which c) precise and approximate measurements are recorded; h) data are collected, recorded, analyzed, and reported using appropriate metric measurements; and i) data are organized and communicated through graphical representation (graphs, charts, and diagrams).
