Current feeds

Getting started

Currently we offer several feeds to a variety of information as represented in the Current feeds section below. Use the links to see which ones you would like to have as feeds on your computer. It is not difficult to acquire a feed, but there are a few necessary steps:

1. To use an RSS service, you first must have on your desktop a way to collect the feeds you want and display them. A program generally called a news reader (also called an aggregator) gives you a place to collect the feeds and then displays them. There are news readers you can download and install on your computer, or you can register with an online news reader, and not download a thing. Some are free, many have a small cost. Here is a list of RSS readers authored by one of the early developers of the RSS specification, Aaron Swartz. He has more information on RSS.
2. Once you have the reader, you can begin to add feeds. Next to each of the feeds below, you will notice an orange RSS button. Click this button and a window will open. What you see there is the code that represents the feed. You need not be concerned with this code, but you do need the URL of that window to paste into the news reader. So go up to the URL address box and copy the entire URL.
3. Next you need to add this URL to your news reader as a feed (or "subscription," or "channel"—there are lots of news readers and several words used to describe what you will be adding.) The best advice is to become somewhat familiar with the reader you decide to use and look for the way it adds a feed. It will ask you for the URL and indicate where to paste it. Paste what you copied in step 2 there, and click something like "Subscribe" (again the word used will depend on your reader).
4. You should now be able to see the feed (the information to which you have subscribed). If DLESE were to change that information in 10 minutes or next week, you would see that change in your feed immediately.
