Chris DiLeonardo - Chair-elect of the DLESE Steering Committee

Chris DiLeonardo was confirmed as Chair-elect at the recent DLESE Steering Committee meeting of February 26-27, 2003, in Boulder, Colorado. Chris will take on his new duties at the 2003 DLESE Annual Meeting in August (hosted by the University of Colorado) when Beth Ambos, current Steering Committee Chair, steps down. Thanks to Beth for her dedicated leadership and we look forward to working with Chris. More information about Chris is available.

NSTA 2003 National Convention - Philadelphia, PA, March 27 - 30

The 2003 National Convention of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) is fast approaching! NSTA 2003 takes place March 27-30 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. DLESE-related sessions include:

• Thursday, March 27, 9:30 AM - Finding the Best Water Resources for Your Classroom: A Preview of the Digital Water Education Library Project (DWEL) - Bryan L. Aivazian (Natrona County School District, Casper, WY)

• Thursday, March 27, 12:30 PM - Learn How to Use A Digital Library to Enhance Earth System Education - Rajul Pandya (DLESE Program Center)

• Friday, March 28, 8:00 AM - Make Program Evaluation in Geoscience Education Easier and More Effective with the DLESE Evaluation "Toolkit" - Susan Buhr (University of Colorado)

DLESE 2003 Annual Meeting

Planning for DLESE 2003 Annual Meeting is proceeding. Although the deadline for answering the Call for Interest is past, you can use submission of the form to place your name on a waiting list for spaces, should they become available.

EarthScope outreach materials available

	The EarthScope initiative will apply observational, analytical, and telecommunications technologies to the investigation and understanding of the structure, evolution, and dynamics of the North American continent. EarthScope will also examine the physical processes controlling earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. EarthScope is one of DLESE's collaborating partners.
The EarthScope Education and Outreach Network (EON) has a number of outreach materials available, including brochures and a Powerpoint presentation aimed at undergraduate classrooms. You can also find out more about EarthScope at NSTA on Thursday, March 27, at 9:30 AM.
