Authors are invited to submit abstracts for papers that address topics to be discussed during the techinical session of the 2008 AESE Annual Meeting, to be held in Flagstaff, AZ. The meeting is open to all those with an interest in earth science publishing. Some of the topics that will be addressed include guidebooks, archiving, web publishing, freelance publishing, best practices in maps/imaging/photo editing, and the future of geoscience education... Geology of Denali is a two and a half day introductory geology course that will provide participants with a broad overview of Denali geology and unique landscape. Nominations are being accepted for math and science teachers in Grades 3, 4 and 5 to attend the 2009 Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy. Students from these grades can nominate teachers or teachers may self-nominate to attend the all-expense paid trip to this professional development program. Colorado River Watch is recruiting new volunteers to monitor water quality and other indicators of watershed health for Colorado waters. Volunteers must make a several year commitment to the program and be willing to sample at a designated station monthly for metals, nutrients and other parameters. Two training sessions will be held in Fall, 2008, and cost $90 per person to attend... Full description

Beam Reach offers a 10-week intensive field program at the advanced undergraduate level to students who want to study endangered orcas and their environment in the Pacific Northwest, Washington state, USA. Two courses totaling 18 quarter credit hours are earned from the University of Washington. The American Museum of Natural History is offering an online professional development course on the Solar System. This six week graduate-level course, intended for K-12 educators, consists of weekly activities, online discussions and a final course project.
