Comments and Teaching Tips given for Drippy the Raindrop: To the Mountains and Back Comment on this resource

Dec 8, 2004 by Adam Mack, Mankato
The resource I reviewed was titled, Drippy the Raindrop Goes on an Adventure. Drippy is a raindrop who takes adventures, a la the water cycle. This lesson, designed by Joel Kimball, is a cartoon of sorts explaining how the water cycle works. Drippy is a drop of water living on the oceanas he gets hot, he evaporates. He makes it onto a cloud that is piloted by Captain Salty. He pilots them into a storm front where once it gets rough, Captain Salty tells Drippy to bail ship. Drippy jumps and lands in a jungle tree where he slips and slides down into a stream. Before long, the stream lands Drippy back at his favorite place, the sea. The water cycle is mentioned in sub-strands in grades K-4, but the benchmark for the water cycle is for grade 4. However, this lesson is really for Kindergarten or 1st graders due to the fact that this is a cartoon type lesson. Im sure 4th graders would get a kick out of it, but I would recommend it for 1st graders. Joel Kimball, the creator of Drippy, has many products for sale regarding Drippy and his many adventures. Some of them are videos, coloring books, etc. I really liked this site and would use it in the future when teaching about the water cycle. http://www.kimballmedia.com/Drippy/Stories/ToMountainsAndBack/Entry.htm
