Comments and Teaching Tips given for All Systems Go!: A Webquest for Earth System Science Comment on this resource

I used this resource in a High School ESE course, and it was unsuccessful. Students could not understand what was expected of them and foundered on most tasks. It might work fine with much more instructor direction, but that's not what a webquest is supposed to be about. Use with caution.

I love web quests, so I would definitely use this resource with my students to further their knowledge on the topic of earth processes. There is enough material in this website to use as a whole unit, which is nice for the planning purpose. It gives students technology skills that are needed later on, as well as great information. I like how it starts out with just the definition of a system, and then it goes into a bike system that is going to be very familiar to many students that they can relate to their prior knowledge, which is always extremely beneficial. It teaches the students how to use concept maps, which is a great tool to become familiar with and it provides an opportunity for each group or student to do a presentation on what they have learned. I like that because in grade five, they can talk in front of their classmates about something they have researched and prepared for. Since the program is geared towards Maine's standards, we would have to fix it a little to relate to the Minnesota standards. I would recommend this for an honors class your first time using it, to see how they react to it.
