CARBONATE 3D
From Cutting Edge
CARBONATE 3D reproduces and predicts 3-dimensional stratigraphic geometries and facies in carbonate and mixed carbonate siliciclastic depositional environments. It forward models sedimentary processes over geologic time. Modeled processes include carbonate platform rim and interior production, basinal sediment production, siliciclastic input, subaerial dissolution and erosion, transport and redeposition of sediment dependent on currents, slope, depth and restriction. CARBONATE 3D was developed as part of a PhD project in the SedTec modeling group at Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL). It was successfully applied to a Miocene platform at Nijar and is now being applied to a Jurassic ramp in NE Spain and a subsurface Devonian atoll in Alberta, Canada.
