Radiogenic Isotopes And Geochronology
This resource provides illustrated lecture notes from a geochemistry course offered by Dr. Scott Wood at the University of Idaho. Topics include the law of radioactivity and the general geochronometry equation, the use common radioactive decay equations such as K-Ar, Ar-Ar, Rb-Sr, and U-Th-Pb, the use of isochrones, concordia diagrams and discordia, the concept of "blocking temperature," the use of radiogenic isotopes as tracers of petrogenetic processes, and the use of cosmogenic radionuclides as geochronometers. The lecture presentation may be downloaded as a PDF document or a PowerPoint presentation. Reading and homework assignments, with answers, are also provided.
