California Academy of Sciences Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum shows a number of traveling exhibits, with past exhibits archived on the website. Permanent exhibits include a special place for children five and under called the Nature Nest, designed to familiarize young children with the plants and animals around them, using live animals and rotating themes. At the Naturalist Center, visitors can view and touch almost anything in the collections cabinets, from human skulls, real Native American artifacts, minerals, fossils and more. Educator Resource Materials Junior kits for Pre-K to Kindergarten children are available for purchase from the Museum and feature specimens, books, learning activities, and a detailed teacher guide, outlining animals and plants commonly found in the San Francisco Bay Area. The lecture series highlights, among other topics, paleontology and geology, and an accredited high school internship program is offered to students age 15 ? 17 years to provide real research experience and to help students set goals for educational and career paths.
