This article describes GLOBE, Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment, a K-12 environmental education program supported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the National Science Foundation (NSF). The GLOBE program was introduced to teachers in a series of inservice workshops at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, a school in a region known for underachievement in math and science. As the teachers participated in the program, they learned basic GLOBE protocols, formed questions on each of the GLOBE topics, collected and analyzed data, and were introduced to the geology of the area. As a result, the teachers were excited about their experience and felt well-prepared to pass their newly-acquired knowledge on to students.
