Earth and Moon DLESE Reviewed Collection
Unique in the solar system, Earth and the Moon are more like a double planet than a planet and a moon. The Moon is quite large in comparison to Earth; about one-quarter of Earth's diameter. This reference discusses the Moon's origin, lack of an atmosphere and low gravity, its synchronous rotation which always presents the same side towards Earth, and its role in stabilizing Earth's wobble and producing tides. There is also a fact sheet containing some of the Moon's physical measurements and links to other relevant topics. A Spanish translation is available.
