|National Water Information System Data for the Nation|
The National Water Information System (NWISWeb) provides real-time and historical data on water flow, water levels, and water quality for approximately 1.5 million sites in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The types of data collected generally fit into the broad categories of surface water and ground water. Surface-water data such as gage height (stage) and stream flow (discharge) is collected at major rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. Groundwater data such as water level is collected at wells and springs. Water-quality data (temperature, specific conductance, pH, nutrients, pesticides, and volatile organic compounds) are available for both surface water and groundwater. Data can be retrieved by category such as surface water, groundwater, or water quality, or by geographic area.
