This lesson introduces students to a variety of environments through multimedia resources and a field trip. They will begin by discussing the environmental features of the area where they live and then visiting one of these local environments. After watching videos of four different environments (Antarctica, the Florida Keys, the Everglades, and Yellowstone National Park) the students will compare and contrast their features. They should understand that Earth's surface has diverse features, that it is made up of rocks, soil, and water, and is surrounded by the gases of the atmosphere, and recognize that rocks come in many different shapes and sizes.
