This resource displays a list of the most recent large earthquakes with links to detailed information about them. In addition it offers links to video replays of recent special events. Personnel at IGPP (the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics) are responsible for the collection and distribution of seismic data from several regional networks, small aperture arrays, and portable instrument deployments. They maintain local archives of all data collected and distribute the data through the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology, Data Managment Center (IRIS-DMC). Detailed information and research results are available for all of the networks they currently operate, or have installed in the past. Students can select a location on either of two maps to learn more about current or past deployments, or choose to use the Deployment menu. Other links lead to more information about earthquakes and their detection including a Frequently Asked Questions feature.
