This lesson plan features information on guiding student research using the Asian shore crab, Hemigrapsus sanguineus, a nonindigenous species whose range now includes Maine to North Carolina. Because this crab has been known to inhabit the East Coast only since 1988, it serves as an excellent subject of novel research. The activity includes objectives, materials list, teacher guide, identifying, handling, sexing, and measuring instructions, and a list of pertinent literature and websites.
