Search Web Service

The Digital Discovery System Web Service (DDSWS) is a search and retrieval service API for items that reside in a digital repository, and is available from the Digital Discovery System (DDS) and the NSDL Collection System (NCS). The service may be used to search over and retrieve items from it's repository in real-time, and is designed to be used by high-availability applications.

The service is illustrated and described formally here:

  • Documentation - The documentation describes the service in detail, with service examples and information about each of the requests and search APIs.
  • Example Clients - The examples provide functional code that illustrate using the service, which are free to copy, modify and use.
  • Explorer - The Search Web Service explorer allows you to issue each of the available requests to the service and view the XML response using your web browser.

To access this DDS repository using the service, use the following Base URL:

  • Base URL = http://www.dlese.org/dds/services/ddsws1-1
