The mission and scope of the Scientific Visualization Studio is to facilitate scientific inquiry and outreach within NASA programs through visualization. The scientific visualizations are primarily produced from data collected by satellites in orbit around Earth or from computer simulations of geophysical phenomena using such data. The visualizations show physical phenomena that occur on Earth, other planets, and the sun. The visualizations focus on natural events such as hurricanes, fires, and floods, virtual zooms and flybys of cities and interesting geographic areas of Earth and Mars, and daily, seasonal, annual, or decadal variations of snow, sea ice, ozone, sea surface temperature, aerosols, land cover, and ocean productivity.
