Risky Business: Asteroid Collision Risk Analysis (titled provided or enhanced by cataloger)
This activity introduces students to risk analysis by having them examine a grid called a risk space with the position of five hazards placed by a risk analyst. The risk space shows how the hazards rank on scales of known, observed, or controllable risk. Students are then asked to tell how concerned we should be about a possible asteroid collision with Earth and how this risk compares with other risks we may be exposed to. Facts and figures concerning the possibility of Earth having a collision with other objects in space are also included.
