At left is a map showing how concepts interrelate and build for the subject area you selected. They are organized by grade range (along the left side) and by sub-topic area (along the top edge). Concepts progress from basic to more advanced and can be used to lead students to increasingly greater levels of scientific understanding.

You can:

  • Point your cursor at a concept for quick information about it
  • Use the Zoom bar and arrows at the top to enlarge an area or move to another area (You can also click and drag the map to reposition it.)
  • Click on a concept to see more details about the concept:
    • The associated education science standards (NSES)
    • Descriptions of educational resources in DLESE that can help teach/learn the selected concept and specifically those especially intended for classroom use and visual resources like photos, illustrations, visualizations, animations, etc.
  • Select a different map using the tabs at the top
