About DLESE overview

The Digital Library for Earth System Education (DLESE) is a distributed community effort involving educators, students, and scientists working together to improve the quality, quantity, and efficiency of teaching and learning about the Earth system at all levels.

DLESE supports Earth system science education by providing:

DLESE resources include electronic materials for both teachers and learners, such as lesson plans, maps, images, data sets, visualizations, assessment activities, curriculum, online courses, and much more.

The National Science Foundation provided funding for the development of DLESE which is now operated by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Computational and Information Systems Laboratory and the NCAR Library on behalf of the education community.

Getting started with DLESE

Getting started with DLESE offers help to those new to the Digital Library for Earth System Education by providing background information, an explanation of major areas of the website, a guide to searching in the library, information on how the community can help with DLESE outreach , and access to other frequently asked questions (FAQ).

DLESE & NSDL

This section describes the relationship between DLESE and the National Science Digital Library (NSDL), which dates from the first articulations of the vision for a national digital library for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. DLESE serves as the geoscience pathway of the NSDL, and both communities benefit from a synergistic exchange of intellectual capital, social innovation in understanding and doing distributed development on a large scale, and technological innovation.
