DLESE Matters Newsletter Collection Scope Statement

Collection scope

The purpose of the DLESE Matters Newsletter Collection is to inform the community about what's happening in and around DLESE. It offers news about professional development opportunities, outreach activities, meetings and conferences of interest, and informs the DLESE community of relevant issues of management and governance, strategic decision making, collaborative projects, and advances in technical library services and development. DLESE Matters is published 10 times per year and the community may contribute information for publication.

Metadata quality assurance

Metadata is reviewed by the quality assurance (QA) team at the DLESE Program Center (DPC). The QA team ensures cataloged items meet criteria to be part of DLESE, provide a spell check, ensure all metadata attributes are complete and applied correctly, assign metadata record identification numbers and do periodic link checking of URLs. The collection uses DLESE's current metadata format and provides all required metadata. The collection is directly searchable at: http://www.dlese.org/newsletter/archive/index.html

If library users find errors or have suggestions for improvement for the collection, such changes will be considered and changes will be made as appropriate.

Persistence plan for the collection

The collection is expected to continue growing and to exist indefinitely as long as funding is reliable. Currently, funding is available through August 2007. If the funding situation changes dramatically enough to impact operations, the collection will cease to exist.
